A statement from the Honorary President upon the death of Pope Francis I

It is with a deep sense of loss that members of the Guild of St Stephen from across the whole world learn of the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, Servant of the servants of God.

Speaking to a gathering of 60,000 Altar Servers in Rome, Pope Francis told us that; ‘there is no need for lots of words, more important are your actions, your closeness and your desire to serve.’

Pope Francis’ desire to serve was firmly rooted in his humanity and in his profound closeness to people and especially the voiceless of society, this was the golden thread of his pontificate.

He was a great witness of the unfathomable mercy of God, inspiring us all by his simplicity and humility, to not be afraid, to be yourself, to be bold and courageous, to be renewed in hope, always trusting in the Risen Lord.

By his life-long service to Holy Church may he now reign in Heaven and enter into the Joy of the Master.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Paul Briers, KCHS
Honorary President
